The United States recorded the highest tariff revenue in history last month.
According to Reuters on the 11th (local time), the U.S. Department of the Treasury reported that tariff revenue for June totaled $27.2 billion (about 37.5 trillion won), approximately four times higher than the same period last year.
As tariff revenue surged, the total revenue of the U.S. federal government for June recorded $526 billion (725.6 trillion won), an increase of 13% compared to last year. This is the highest on a monthly basis. In contrast, expenditures decreased by 7% to $499 billion (688.7 trillion won), resulting in a monthly budget surplus of $2.7 billion (about 37.2 trillion won) for the U.S.
Scott Bessent, the Secretary of the Treasury, noted on X (formerly Twitter) that "while President Donald Trump was working hard to reclaim America's economic sovereignty, tariff revenue hit a record high," praising Trump’s tariff policy achievements.
The U.S. Treasury added that considering changes in welfare initiatives, the actual deficit would have been around $70 billion (96.6 trillion won). The share of tariffs in the federal government's revenue has more than doubled to approximately 5% within about four months, solidifying tariffs as a major source of revenue for the federal government.
Earlier, starting from October 1 of last year in the 2025 fiscal year, the U.S. recorded a total of $11.33 billion (156.3 trillion won) in tariff revenue over nine months, setting an all-time high. Following this, President Trump announced that higher tariffs based on reciprocity will be imposed starting August 1.
