U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to send a notification including unilateral tariff rates to 12 to 15 countries.
Trump said on the 6th (local time) before boarding Air Force One heading to the White House in New Jersey, "I plan to send a letter on Monday (the 7th)."
He added, "It could be 12 countries and, perhaps, 15 countries."
This is an increase from the previously mentioned number of 12 countries for the letter recipients.
Trump continued, "It seems that about 15 countries will be involved, and it will be sent on Monday," adding, "Some will be sent on Tuesday (the 8th) and Wednesday (the 9th)" and, "We have been negotiating. We are combining the sending of the letter and various negotiations."
When asked about the possibility of changing tariff rates on July 9 or August 1, Trump said, "I think we will finish negotiations with most countries by July 9," and added, "Either a letter or a deal."
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, next to President Trump, elaborated, "The tariff is expected to take effect on August 1," stating that "the president is setting the current tariff rates and negotiations."
