Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, declared the formation of a new party, the 'America Party,' on the 5th (local time) after conflicts with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Musk stated on this day through X (formerly Twitter), "You want a new party, and you will have it," adding, "Today, the 'America Party' is founded to bring freedom back to you."
He criticized the reason for the party's formation, saying, "We live in a 'one-party system' that bankrupts the country through waste and corruption, not democracy." This implies that both the Republican and Democratic parties are responsible.
On the day before Independence Day in the U.S., Musk conducted a poll on social media regarding the establishment of the new party, hinting at its potential. In a subsequent post, he stated, "We will focus on 2 to 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts," claiming, "Considering the slight difference in the number of seats, it could be the decisive vote on contentious bills." He envisions the party playing a 'casting vote' role as a third party.
Musk rose to prominence as a close ally of President Trump by publicly supporting him in last year's election; however, he has recently taken steps toward separation by openly opposing Trump's proposed tax cut and border security legislation, known as the 'one big beautiful bill.'
Political insiders believe Musk's strategy is to absorb the 'anti-Trump and non-Democratic' support base to secure a number of seats in next November's midterm elections and to check President Trump's legislative dominance.
