The Australian government recently canceled the visa of American rapper Kanye West (also known as Ye), who sparked controversy by releasing a song praising Hitler.
According to reports from AP, AFP, and Reuters on the 2nd (local time), Tony Burke, the Australian Minister for Home Affairs, stated that West's visa was revoked after he released the Nazi-praising song 'Hail Hitler' in May.
West caused a global backlash by releasing the single 'Hail Hitler' on May 8, the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany's defeat in World War II. He also posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, 'I love Hitler' and 'I am a Nazi.'
Minister Burke mentioned on Australia's public broadcaster ABC regarding West's visa that 'officials reviewed the law and said that encouraging Nazism while singing such a song is wrong. We do not need that in Australia.'
He emphasized, 'We already have plenty of problems in this country without deliberately importing serious prejudice.'
Minister Burke reported that West has visited Australia frequently over the years, as it is the home country of his wife, Bianca Censori. Censori's family lives in Melbourne.
After facing increasing backlash following the 'Hail Hitler' announcement, he clarified that the song was a metaphor expressing his issues and changed the title to 'Hallelujah.' He also declared on his X account, 'No more anti-Semitism.'
Meanwhile, West is scheduled to meet Korean audiences with his concert 'YE LIVE IN KOREA' at Incheon Munhak Stadium on the 26th.
