U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of regime change in Iran the day after the U.S. military struck Iran's nuclear facilities.
On the 22nd (local time), President Trump stated through his social media platform Truth Social, "If the regime cannot make Iran great, why wouldn't there be a change?" and added, "Make Iran great again! (MIGA)".
He noted that the term "regime change" is considered politically incorrect but argued, "If the current Iranian regime is incompetent, it wouldn't be surprising for a new regime to take over."
Earlier, Trump has maintained his position that the purpose of the strikes against Iran is to prevent the development of nuclear weapons.
On the same day, Marco Rubio, Minister of State, stated in an interview with Fox News, "What we want right now is to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons," and said, "Regime change in Iran is not the goal. The U.S. is ready to negotiate as soon as Iran wants to, even tomorrow."
Additionally, Trump assessed the U.S. strike against Iran's nuclear facilities as successful. He said, "The damage inflicted on Iran's nuclear facilities is monumental," and reported, "The B-2 stealth bomber pilots landed safely at their base in Missouri."
