U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on the 22nd (local time) that the U.S. attack on Iran's nuclear facilities has delayed Iran's nuclear program, stating that the long-term goal is to permanently dismantle it.
Vice President Vance noted in an interview with NBC that "Iran's nuclear program is the biggest red line set by the U.S., and through this airstrike, we struck and destroyed the facilities," as reported by Reuters.
He emphasized that President Donald Trump's order for the attack was a carefully made decision, saying, "This operation could provide an opportunity to reshape the negotiation framework between the U.S. and Iran."
Vice President Vance added, "As President Trump mentioned, we do not wish for the deployment of ground troops or a regime change in Iran," stating, "Rather, we desire dialogue that can resolve the long-term conflict with Iran."
He clarified that the U.S. is not at war with Iran itself, but is fighting against Iran's nuclear program, and refuted the claim that President Trump's decision to carry out the attack exceeded presidential authority, stating it is not factual.
