U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on the 17th (local time) that President Donald Trump could decide to take "additional action" to end the crucial issue of uranium enrichment in Iran.
Vice President Vance wrote on his X account that "he (President Trump) may decide to take additional actions to end Iran's uranium enrichment," adding, "that decision rests entirely with the President."
President Trump had shortened his attendance at the G7 summit the previous day by one day and returned from Canada. U.S. internet media Axios reported, citing two sources, that President Trump, upon his return, was scheduled to hold a meeting with the National Security team in the White House Situation Room. Earlier, President Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on his way back that he wanted a "real end" rather than a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. He reiterated to reporters shortly after arriving in Washington that he wanted "something better than a ceasefire."
Vice President Vance refuted Iran's claim that uranium enrichment is for civilian nuclear energy use, stating that President Trump has focused on utilizing the military's strength to protect the people.
He also noted, "Of course, it is right for people to worry about becoming entangled in foreign situations after 25 years of foolish foreign policy," adding, "But I believe the President has gained some (public) trust on this issue." He further added, "Having seen this issue up close personally, I am confident that he (President Trump) is only interested in using the military to achieve the goals of the American people."
