Russia has reiterated its intention to mediate between Iran and Israel. Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, noted on the 16th (local time) that "Russia is ready to provide mediation services," and reported that President Vladimir Putin has solidified his willingness to mediate while engaging in discussions with key leaders recently.

Russia emphasized that it is maintaining contact with representatives from Israel and Iran through appropriate channels and is prepared to take all necessary measures to resolve the current conflict.

On the 13th, the day the Israeli attack on Iran began, President Putin conducted phone conversations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that he is ready to mediate to prevent escalating tensions.

On the 14th, he communicated via phone with U.S. President Donald Trump, indicating his willingness to play a mediating role in resolving Middle Eastern issues. President Trump said he is "open" to Putin's mediation. Additionally, on the 16th, President Putin reaffirmed his commitment to actively mediate by urging Turkish President Erdoğan to cease hostile actions in the Middle East during a phone call.

Analysts suggest that Russia's desire to play a mediator role stems from its aim to showcase its presence in the international diplomatic arena amid challenges related to the Ukraine issue. Moreover, it appears that Russia intends to demonstrate the effectiveness of its own solutions through resolving Middle Eastern conflicts. However, resistance to Russia's intervention is also anticipated. French President Emmanuel Macron criticized, stating that "Russia, which has been involved in the Ukrainian conflict for years, cannot serve as a mediator."

Russia has claimed that the European Union (EU) has not provided substantial assistance in resolving Middle Eastern issues, mentioning that Russia, the United States, China, Arab nations, and Turkey hold significant influence over the situation. Furthermore, Russia stated that its proposal to accommodate Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles remains valid, while noting that the situation has become complicated due to hostile actions.
