U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Israel's plan to eliminate Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Reuters reported on the 15th.
According to reports, Israel conducted a large-scale preemptive strike targeting Iran's nuclear weapons development program on the 12th and has been in continual contact with the United States, according to two anonymous senior U.S. officials.
In particular, these officials indicated that Israel communicated it had an opportunity to eliminate Khamenei to the U.S. side, but President Trump is said to have rejected the plan.
However, sources reportedly avoided mentioning whether President Trump conveyed this message directly.
One senior U.S. official said, "Did the Iranians kill Americans?" and added, "Targeting political leaders in a situation where they did not is not even something to discuss."
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with Fox News on the same day regarding the 'Khamenei assassination plan,' "There are too many false reports about a conversation that did not actually take place," and added, "I will not comment on that."
He also added, "We will do what is necessary, and I think the United States knows what is good for them."
