U.S. President Donald Trump assessed that the situation in Los Angeles, California, where protests against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) crackdown on illegal immigrants occurred, is stabilizing.
On the 12th (local time), Trump posted on social media (SNS) that 'Los Angeles has been safe and secure over the last two nights,' adding that 'our great state National Guard, with a bit of help from the Marines, made it possible for the LA police to effectively carry out their duties.'
He noted, 'Everyone worked well together, but without the military, Los Angeles would be a crime scene like we haven't seen in years.'
Trump criticized Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom, saying he has 'completely lost control of the situation,' and added that 'he should be thanking those who saved him rather than justifying his own mistakes and incompetence.'
The escalating protests in LA are showing some signs of calming down following the imposition of a nighttime curfew that began on the 10th.
Trump emphasized that his decision to deploy a total of 4,000 National Guard troops and send 700 Marines to the area for police protection and guarding federal facilities was the right one.
However, protests against the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigrants are spreading beyond LA to Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, Austin, New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
