A man in his 20s from Australia, who won a lottery worth 30 billion won but ended his life after getting involved with drugs, has been reported on belatedly.
According to local media on the 9th (local time), Joshua Winslett, an Australian man who won the New Zealand Powerball lottery worth 22 million New Zealand dollars (approximately 30 billion won), was found dead at home at the end of 2022.
The lottery he purchased in 2018 while living in New Zealand as a plumber was the winning ticket. However, the joy was short-lived as he reportedly got involved with drug crime.
In August 2020, police raided his home in Adelaide and reportedly seized drugs including cocaine and ecstasy, as well as firearms. It was reported that police had received information that drugs were being manufactured in his house.
In September 2022, the Adelaide District Court sentenced Winslett to 3 years and 9 months in prison for drug supply and illegal possession of firearms, and he reportedly admitted guilt during the trial.
Photos released by the court show that Winslett's home at the time was cluttered with drugs, drug-related paraphernalia, trash, and clothing. It was reported that the refrigerator contained only alcohol, Red Bull, and a bowl of white powder.
