On the 10th, Park Yoon-joo (55, photo) was appointed as the new Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving as the ambassador to the ASEAN delegation. He is known for his keen understanding of the North American region.

Vice Minister Park, born in 1970, graduated from the Department of International Relations at Seoul National University and received a master’s degree in international trade and investment from George Washington University. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995 as part of the 29th Foreign Service examination.

Vice Minister Park has served as the head of the North America Division II, Deputy Director General of the North America Bureau, and Director of Human Resources Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Just before his appointment as ambassador to the ASEAN delegation, he served as the Consul General in Atlanta.

Having spent most of his career in the North American region, he is regarded as an expert on North America.

Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung noted that Vice Minister Park has demonstrated exceptional expertise in addressing North American issues based on his extensive experience in Washington, saying, “He is regarded as the right person to uphold pragmatic diplomacy centered on national interests in the tariff negotiations, which are the top priority for the second term of Donald Trump.”
