North Korean leader Kim Jong Un frequently smokes the cigarette '7.27' at official events, which is recognized as a high-priced premium cigarette in China and is gaining popularity.
According to North Korean media on the 8th, the North Korean-made 7.27 cigarettes are being sold for 500 yuan (about 96,000 won) per pack in places like Dandong and Shenyang in Liaoning Province, China. This is nearly six times the typical price of Chinese cigarettes, which ranges from 80 to 120 yuan.
A local source in China quoted by the media said, "The 7.27 cigarette from Chosun (North Korea) is several times more expensive than Chinese cigarettes but still sells well," adding, "Since the 7.27 cigarette is rumored to be the one Kim Jong Un smokes, people buy and smoke it out of curiosity."
Meanwhile, 7.27 refers to July 27, the date the Korean War armistice agreement was signed. North Korea commemorates it annually as 'Victory Day.'
