House Speaker Mike Johnson (Republican-Louisiana) said that President Donald Trump and Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk hope to "reconcile."
Speaker Johnson stated in an interview with ABC News on the 8th, "There are a lot of emotions involved, but everyone working together is in the national interest."
President Trump and CEO Musk have been exchanging barbs since the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA)," which contains provisions for significant tax cuts and expenditure increases, passed the House. CEO Musk harshly criticized the OBBBA, calling it a "disgusting bill" that could explosively increase the budget deficit.
However, Speaker Johnson dismissed CEO Musk's criticism. He said, "We did not create the bill to please the wealthiest person in the world, but we aimed to help hardworking Americans."
Contrary to Speaker Johnson's hopes, no signs of reconciliation between President Trump and CEO Musk are detectable. In an interview with NBC News on the 7th, President Trump answered "No" when asked if he wanted to restore his relationship with CEO Musk. When asked if the relationship was over, he replied, "Yes."
CEO Musk also launched another offensive. He conducted a poll related to the founding of a third party through his social media (SNS) platform X. He also retweeted a post praising the fiscal austerity policies of the Javier Milei government in Argentina.
