Chinese airlines have resumed the purchase of Boeing aircraft, which had been halted due to the 'tariff war' between the U.S. and China, local Chinese media reported on the 8th.

According to reports, on the morning of the 6th, a new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft took off from Seattle, U.S., heading to China. This aircraft is one of three that arrived at Boeing's completion center in Zhejiang Province, China, in March, then returned to the U.S. in April. Xiamen Airlines was scheduled to receive it.

After the Donald Trump administration announced a universal and reciprocal tariff, the U.S. and China exchanged retaliatory tariffs. During this process, the tariff rates on American aircraft and parts soared from the previous 5% to as high as 145%. This background explains why the purchase of Boeing aircraft was interrupted after China Cargo Airlines and China Southern Airlines received one Boeing freighter and eight aircraft in early April.

However, as the U.S. and China agreed to suspend high tariffs for 90 days through high-level trade negotiations, the possibility of Chinese airlines receiving Boeing aircraft has increased. Currently, Xiamen Airlines is also scheduled to receive the remaining two aircraft, and Ground Air is planning to receive Boeing aircraft.
