U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned that the reason Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, may be attacking him could possibly relate to 'drugs,' according to foreign news reports. While Trump and Musk showcased a tight friendship during the presidential campaign, their relationship has recently deteriorated amid a war of words.
The New York Times reported on the 6th (local time) that President Trump recently expressed this sentiment in private conversations with close aides. CNN also reported that President Trump was seen asking his aides whether Musk's behavior was related to drug allegations.
Earlier, The New York Times reported that Musk had consumed a large quantity of drugs, including ketamine, during the last presidential campaign period, citing associates. Musk refuted this claim, stating he was prescribed ketamine to treat depression but stopped taking it after his symptoms improved.
President Trump reportedly mentioned the possibility that Musk's recent behavior may be due to drugs after being briefed on such articles. However, he has not expressed his suspicions in public. There are observations that this could further deteriorate the already strained relationship between the two.
President Trump may also consider terminating government contracts held by corporations owned by Musk. Musk's aerospace company SpaceX has entered into several contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense. However, if contracts with SpaceX are terminated, U.S. military, defense, and space programs may be adversely affected.
