According to the Chinese Embassy in Korea and the state-run Xinhua News Agency, President Xi called President Lee on this day to convey this message. It is reported that President Xi emphasized during the call that Korea and China are important neighbors and cooperative partners.

Xinhua News Agency said, "Over 33 years of diplomatic relations, the two countries have transcended ideological and social system differences, cooperated, achieved common success, and the relationship has developed steadily and healthily," adding, "China aims to maintain the original intentions of diplomatic relations with Korea, solidify friendship, and achieve the 'win-win' goal to provide greater benefits to the peoples of both countries."

Additionally, the Chinese authorities responded by saying, "Stop the incitement," regarding the earlier statement from the White House that expressed concerns and opposition to China's interference and growing influence over democratic countries around the world.

On the same day, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian noted at a regular briefing, "The fundamental driving force for the development of China-Korea relations comes from the common interests of both sides. We should not target or be influenced by third parties," adding, "We are paying attention to the relevant situation. China has consistently adhered to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and has never intervened in the internal affairs of any country and will not do so in the future."

He further stated, "China urges the United States to correct its longstanding habit of speculating about China through its actions and to stop inciting discord in China-Korea relations."
