Local media reported on Dec. 2 (local time) that independent candidate Karol Nawrocki, a right-wing opposition figure, was elected in the runoff of the Polish presidential election.
According to Polish broadcaster TVP, Nawrocki received 50.9% of the votes, surpassing the ruling party's candidate, Rafal Trzaskowski (53), who has a pro-European liberal stance, with 49.1%, within the margin of error.
Local outlet Onet also reported through its website that Nawrocki won the presidential election. The Polish National Electoral Commission has completed the counting and is expected to announce the official results soon.
Candidate Nawrocki is a conservative historian who promoted anti-European and pro-American policies during the election campaign, including reducing support for Ukrainian refugees, withdrawing from the European refugee agreement, and security cooperation with the Trump administration.
Earlier this month, he took a photo with President Donald Trump during the National Day of Prayer event at the White House and actively utilized it in his campaign. President Trump also expressed support for Nawrocki, saying, "You will win."
