Rick Smith, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of U.S. security company Axon Enterprise, which makes tasers, topped the list of highest-paid corporate CEOs in the U.S. last year. He earned approximately $165 million (about 226 billion won) last year.
On the 1st (local time), The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported this based on data from research company MyLogIQ. The analysis examined the salaries of CEOs from over 400 corporations in the Standard and Poor’s (S&P) 500 who have served for at least a year, based on their salaries reported by mid-last month for the 2024 fiscal year ending June 30, 2023.
According to the data, Rick Smith is the only CEO among the S&P 500 who received more than $100 million last year. Following him, Larry Culp, CEO of General Electric (GE), earned approximately $89 million (about 122.4 billion won) to rank second, while Stephen Schwarzman, chairman of Blackstone, came in third with $84 million (about 115.6 billion won), and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, ranked fourth with $74.6 million (about 102.6 billion won).
Jamie Dimon, CEO of the largest bank in the U.S., JPMorgan Chase, was listed at 23rd with $37.7 million (about 51.8 billion won). Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, ranked 63rd with $27 million (about 37.1 billion won). Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, received nothing due to a legal dispute over performance compensation plans, placing him at the bottom.
Meanwhile, the WSJ analyzed that half of the CEOs earned more than $17.1 million (about 23.4 billion won) last year. This is an increase from the previous year ($15.8 million, about 21.7 billion won).
