Secretary Bessent noted in a CBS interview that "President Trump is expected to have a currency with President Xi soon to discuss trade issues" and said, "I am confident that this issue will be resolved once President Trump and President Xi have a currency. U.S. and China reached a temporary ceasefire agreement last month, but President Trump claimed on the 30th of last month that China violated the trade agreement.

Secretary Bessent also claimed that China is not lifting export restrictions on key minerals and rare earths contrary to the agreement. He said, "China is withholding some products it agreed to export when it reached an agreement with us" and added, "It could be a small issue in the Chinese system or it could be intentional. Let's see after the President has a currency with President Xi.

Kevin Hassett, Chairperson of the White House Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), also said on ABC that "this week, President Trump is expected to have a conversation with President Xi regarding trade negotiations" and added, "I don't know if they have set a specific date, but discussions have been ongoing about them talking about the Geneva agreement.
