Some products of the world-famous jelly brand Haribo have been found to contain marijuana substances. Haribo has initiated a recall of the affected products distributed in the Netherlands.
According to AFP and other sources on the 29th (local time), Haribo recently recalled some cola bottle-shaped jelly sold under the name 'Happy Cola F!ZZ' in the Netherlands. Specifically, this concerns 1 kg packaged products with an expiration date until January 2026. The production code is L341-4002307906.
The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) warned on its website that 'products containing jelly that may cause health issues such as dizziness upon consumption are being distributed,' advising consumers not to eat them. So far, three bags of affected products have been identified, but they explained that a full recall was decided as a preventive measure.
This incident became known after police received reports that several individuals, including children and adults, fell ill after eating the jelly. Following the report, the police requested a component analysis, which revealed that the jelly indeed contained marijuana substances.
Patrick Tax, Haribo's Vice President of Marketing, noted in a statement sent to AFP, 'We are closely cooperating with the Dutch authorities to assist in the investigation and ascertain the facts related to the (product) contamination.'
