U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the potential participation of Canada in the next-generation missile defense system "Golden Dome" by saying, "If it becomes the 51st state of the United States, it will not cost a penny."
On the 27th (local time), President Trump stated via his social media platform, Truth Social, that "Canada is considering joining the Golden Dome project."
Additionally, President Trump noted, "If Canada becomes our precious 51st state, it will cost $0," adding that "If it remains a separate nation, it will cost $61 billion (about 84 trillion won)."
Earlier, President Trump announced on the 20th that he would complete the next-generation missile defense system "Golden Dome," which includes space-based sensors and intercept missiles, within three years. In this regard, the U.S. Congressional Budget Office estimated that it would take up to $542 billion (about 755 trillion won) over the next 20 years.
In this context, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney noted on the 21st that "Canada has the capacity to complete the Golden Dome through investment collaboration" and that "the Golden Dome is currently an issue under review."
