U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Apple, a big tech corporation in the United States, will not be able to avoid high tariffs.
On the 23rd (local time), Trump noted on his social media, Truth Social, that he had long informed Apple Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook that he hopes iPhones sold in the U.S. are manufactured in the U.S., not in India or other countries.
He added, "If not, Apple will have to pay a tariff of at least 25%."
This is interpreted as a warning that if Apple does not move its manufacturing base to the U.S., it cannot escape the tariff bomb.
On the 15th, while on a trip to the Middle East, Trump also mentioned that he spoke with CEO Tim Cook, saying, "I do not want to build a factory in India."
Apple is pursuing a plan to transfer its China-centered production and assembly processes to countries like India to minimize the impact of Trump's tariff war.
