Son Heung-min of England's professional football club Tottenham Hotspur savored the joy of his first career victory. He gifted the team a championship trophy for the first time in 17 years.
On the 22nd (Korea time), Tottenham won 1-0 against United (Manchester United) in the 2024-2025 UEFA Europa League (UEL) final held at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain.
Tottenham held on to the decisive goal scored by Brennan Johnson late in the first half. Captain Son Heung-min was substituted in at the 67th minute and played on the pitch for over 20 minutes until the end of the match.
As the captain, Son Heung-min held the championship trophy first on the podium, following tradition. This marked the first victory after 15 seasons since making his debut in Europe’s top league. Tottenham also ended their 17-year wait for a major tournament victory since winning the EFL Cup in the 2007-08 season.
While Son Heung-min played, Tottenham recorded three runners-up finishes in the Premier League (EPL) in the 2016-2017 season, the EFL Cup in the 2020-2021 season, and the UEFA Champions League (UCL) in the 2018-2019 season.
