An incident occurred in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, on the 21st (local time) where two employees of the Israeli Embassy in the U.S. were killed in a shooting.
According to Fox News and others, they were reported to have been shot and killed at the intersection of 3rd Street and F Street in the northwest (NW) area near the Capital Jewish Museum. The incident area is also adjacent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) office and the prosecutor's office.
On the day of the incident, a reception for young diplomats hosted by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) was taking place at the museum, and the deceased were a man and a woman who worked at the embassy. The embassy noted, "The victims were shot at close range."
Local police have apprehended a suspect who shouted "Palestinian liberation, liberation" immediately after the crime. The suspect was reportedly seen loitering outside the Jewish Museum just before committing the crime.
The suspect is a 30-year-old male named Elias Rodriguez, according to Reuters citing the police.
Danny Danon, the Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, criticized the shooting as "an anti-Semitic terrorist and corrupt act," and said, "I am confident that the U.S. authorities will take strong action against those responsible for this criminal act."
President Donald Trump immediately took to his social media Truth Social to describe the incident as a horrific event stemming from anti-Semitism, expressing condolences to the bereaved families.
According to the Israeli Embassy in the U.S., the victims were young male and female employees who were engaged.
