U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 17th, "I plan to hold a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 19th at 10 a.m. (local time in the U.S., 11 p.m. on the 19th in Korea)."

On the same day, President Trump wrote on his Truth Social account, "The topic of conversation with President Putin will be to stop the 'bloodbath' that averages over 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers killed per week and to engage in trade."

He added, "After that, I will be in talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several member countries of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization)." He continued, "I hope for a productive day, a ceasefire will be achieved, and this violent war that should never happen again will come to an end."
