A dwelling that was on the market in Chicago, Illinois, has been identified as the childhood residence of Pope Leo XIV, leading to the withdrawal of its listing.
According to U.S. Business Insider and others on the 10th (local time), a dwelling near Chicago, Illinois, was listed for $199,000 (approximately 280 million won). This brick dwelling, with an area of about 111.4 square meters, consisted of three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The house became famous after the conclave (a secret meeting of cardinals). As the fact that Pope Leo XIV grew up here became known, inquiries about purchasing the house flooded in. Since the morning of the 8th, there have been 7 to 8 contacts expressing interest in buying the house, and eventually, the homeowner decided to withdraw the listing after careful consideration.
Steve Burdzik, the real estate agent handling the sale, said, "The homeowner was unaware that it was the house where the pope grew up," adding, "The homeowner was very surprised. It's more significant than winning the lottery." He continued, "It was an honor."
Burdzik also noted, "The homeowner may continue to own the dwelling, but they are also considering options such as converting it into a museum commemorating Pope Leo XIV or a rental space for visitors." He said they are thinking about consulting Leo XIV's brother, who still lives in Illinois.
