Nissan Motor Co., which is struggling due to deteriorating performance, has finalized a plan to lay off more than 10,000 additional employees both domestically and internationally in order to normalize management, according to a report by Japan's NHK on the 12th. Considering the existing layoff plan of 9,000 employees, this is expected to result in a restructuring of about 20,000 employees, or approximately 15% of the total group staff.

Nissan Motor Co. is expected to record an annual loss of 750 billion yen (approximately 7.2 trillion won), prompting the company to announce a management normalization plan in November of last year that included a 20% reduction in global production capacity. However, sales have been even worse than expected, leading to a firm decision on additional layoffs.

Nissan Motor Co. also scrapped plans to build an electric vehicle battery factory in Kitakyushu. Previously, Nissan had decided to close three factories, including those in Thailand.

Nissan Motor Co. is set to reveal more specific management normalization plans at a press conference on the 13th.
