U.S. President Donald Trump said regarding the results of the U.S.-China trade negotiations, "The biggest thing is that China has agreed to open its market," adding, "We have achieved a complete rerouting of our relationship with China."
According to Bloomberg News, President Trump revealed this during a press conference held at the White House in Washington, D.C., on the 12th (local time). Trump stated, "China will suspend or eliminate all non-tariff barriers," and noted, "It will take time to document it, but ultimately, they agreed to open the Chinese market."
Trump explained that this agreement does not include tariffs imposed on automobiles, steel, aluminum, and pharmaceuticals. He added, "China has been hit very hard, and under those circumstances, they were very pleased to do something with us," and mentioned, "I may have a currency conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping this weekend."
Trump stated that China agreed to stop supplying raw materials for the synthetic drug fentanyl. He continued, "If China halts the fentanyl supply, there will be a very large incentive," adding, "China will work as promised."
