As the military confrontation between India and Pakistan escalated, the United States stepped in to mediate.
The U.S. Department of State announced that Minister Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistan Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir on the 8th (local time) and urged Pakistan and India to seek ways to ease tensions.
Minister Rubio also noted that the United States would offer support to initiate constructive dialogue to prevent future conflicts, according to the Department of State.
On the same day, the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) issued a joint statement urging both countries to immediately ease tensions and engage in direct dialogue for peace.
The G7 foreign ministers expressed that "the escalation of military tensions poses a serious threat to regional stability" and voiced concerns for civilian safety, urging both sides to exercise "maximum restraint."
India and Pakistan have been engaged in military conflict following a gun attack near the resort town of Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir on the 22nd of last month.
India has accused Pakistan of being behind the terrorism and fired missiles targeting Pakistan, while on the same day, the Pakistani military initiated retaliatory military operations.
