JD Vance, the U.S. Vice President, expressed that the United States would cease mediation if Russia does not take the negotiations for ending the war in Ukraine seriously.
On the 8th (local time), Vice President Vance said in an interview with Fox News, "If we determine that Russia is not showing sincerity in the negotiations, we will walk away from the mediation diplomacy."
He continued, "If the United States were to end mediation diplomacy, Russia and Ukraine would have to resolve their issues without U.S. advice," adding, "I don't believe this would be good for anyone."
He explained, "I had expected Russia to make excessive demands as conditions for ending the war," noting that "Russia included in its initial peace negotiation proposal a plan to add parts of Ukrainian territory that it has not yet occupied to its own territory."
Vice President Vance emphasized, "We do not want to see Ukraine collapse, and we want it to remain a sovereign nation."
