On the 8th (local time), President Trump stated through his social media platform, Truth Social, that "the United States ideally calls for an unconditional ceasefire lasting 30 days" and added, "a feasible ceasefire must be achieved."

He further noted, "If a ceasefire does not happen, the United States and its allies will impose more sanctions."

He continued, "Thousands of young soldiers are dying each week," and stated, "As president, I will work with Europeans to ensure peace between Russia and Ukraine."

In addition, President Trump emphasized that "the ceasefire should ultimately lead to peace negotiations, and this can all happen quickly."

This post is reported to have come after a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. President Zelensky responded to President Trump, saying, "Ukraine is ready to begin a 30-day ceasefire."
