According to the Ministry of Education, the 7th APEC Education Ministers' Meeting will be attended by over 400 participants, including education ministers and delegations from 21 member economies in the region, as well as education experts from both domestic and foreign institutions. South Korea will preside over the meeting as the APEC chair country.

It has been 13 years since the APEC Education Ministers' Meeting was last held in South Korea following the 5th meeting in Gyeongju in 2012. This meeting also marks the first to take place in 9 years since the 6th meeting in Peru in 2016.

The theme of the meeting is "Bridging the educational gap and promoting sustainable growth in the era of digital transformation," and discussions are expected to focus on the direction of future education through digital educational innovation and ways to strengthen global educational cooperation for regional common prosperity.

Meanwhile, Matthew Murray, the U.S. Ambassador and senior official in charge of APEC, will visit South Korea this month.

According to the U.S. Department of State, Ambassador Murray will visit Jeju from the 11th to the 17th to attend the second senior officials’ meeting (SOM2) related to APEC and other associated meetings.

The Department of State noted that "During SOM2, the United States will cooperate with senior officials and industry leaders from South Korea and other stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region," adding that "We will leverage APEC to advance U.S. priority diplomacy, trade, and investment policies."

The APEC Leaders' Meeting is scheduled to be held in Gyeongju at the end of October, attracting attention on whether U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend.
