The Department of Homeland Security announced this policy on the 5th (local time) through a press release.

The targets are illegal immigrants who choose voluntary departure through the app operated by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

After confirming their return, they will also receive $1,000 in subsidies along with travel expense support, the Department of Homeland Security noted.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, a resident who illegally entered during the previous Biden administration received an airline ticket from Chicago to Honduras.

The Department of Homeland Security explained that additional reservations for airline tickets for voluntary return are in place.

The Department of Homeland Security projected that this method will incur 70% less expense compared to deporting illegal immigrants.

The Department of Homeland Security stated that deporting an illegal immigrant costs an average of $17,121 (about 24 million won) per person.

The Department of Homeland Security further explained that illegal immigrants who voluntarily depart through the CBP app do not need to contact the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and may be able to re-enter the United States legally in the future.
