U.S. President Donald Trump is increasing pressure, stating that he will cancel the tax-exempt status of Harvard University, which has opposed the Trump administration's policies.

On the 2nd (local time), President Trump wrote on social media platform Truth Social, "We are going to strip Harvard of its tax-exempt status," adding, "They deserve it."

According to U.S. tax law, nonprofit institutions like Harvard University that serve educational, religious, or charitable purposes receive tax exemptions; however, if they violate regulations, such as engaging in political activities, their tax-exempt status may be revoked by the Internal Revenue Service.

Harvard University has expressed its position that the demands for changes to campus policies, which the Trump administration has justified by citing the need to eradicate anti-Semitism on campus, and the allowance of government intervention in academic personnel matters infringe upon academic freedom, leading to conflicts with the U.S. government.

Amid the Trump administration's retaliatory measures, including the suspension of tens of trillions of won in funding, Harvard University has filed a lawsuit against the government, asking it to stop these actions.
