U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Deputy National Security Adviser Alex Wong plan to resign, local foreign media such as Reuters and CNN reported on the 1st (local time).
Waltz is the chief of diplomacy and security in the Trump administration. However, he has previously been embroiled in controversy for discussing military secrets, such as plans for Houthi airstrikes, in a civilian messenger "Signal" chat room, a scandal known as "Signal Gate."
For this reason, demands for his dismissal poured in from the Democratic Party, but President Donald Trump did not replace him. Waltz also attended the cabinet meeting chaired by President Trump at the White House the day before.
Wong served as the Special Representative for North Korea and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs during the first Trump administration, handling practical negotiations with North Korea.
