Ukrainian female journalist Viktoriya Roshina returned as a cold corpse after infiltrating Russian-occupied territory for reporting.

There were burn marks on the tips of the toes that appeared to be evidence of electric torture, and the ribs were broken. There were bruises on the head and buttocks, suspected to be signs of assault. The hyoid bone under the chin was also broken, which often appears in victims who have been choked. Both the brain and the two eyeballs had been extracted.

A joint investigation team from The Washington Post, The Guardian, and Ukraine's Ukrainska Pravda reported this on the 29th (local time). This information was released to various foreign media and the nonprofit investigation media 'Forbidden Stories.'

Reporter Roshina is believed to have been captured by Russian troops around August 2023. He had previously succeeded in infiltrating several times to expose the atrocities of the Russian army. It was determined that he was captured by Russian troops while attempting to infiltrate an underground facility near the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia to cover what illegal torture acts were being committed against civilians.

Reporter Roshina was detained without any charges. He did not receive assistance from a lawyer. About a year after being captured, he was able to communicate with his parents, and that was all. The Russian authorities notified the Ukrainian side of reporter Roshina's death in October of last year. He was 28 years old at the time of his death and was the first Ukrainian journalist to lose his life while being held by Russia.

Roshina's body was returned in February of this year when Russia repatriated 757 bodies of Ukrainian casualties. He was the last of the 757 returned, and the identification tag read, 'Unknown name, Namsung, severe damage to the coronary artery.' The identification tag was not true, and it was revealed to be Roshina.

The Ukrainian prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into war crimes to identify and punish those responsible for Roshina's death.

According to Yonhap News, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated regarding the report that 'there needs to be greater attention and a stronger response from the international community regarding the issue of civilians kidnapped by Russia.'
