President Donald Trump noted on the 29th (local time) that the negotiations with India regarding tariffs are "progressing well."
According to the White House press corps, President Trump told reporters as he left the White House that he believes they will reach an agreement with India. "They want to reach an agreement," he said.
When asked about discussions with the Australian prime minister regarding trade issues, he responded, "They are in contact, and I will talk to him." He noted there were no new developments in the negotiations with Canada, which held a general election the day before.
Regarding the decision to ease the tariff burden on automotive parts manufacturers, he said, "We just wanted to help the companies enjoy a small transition during this short period." He added, "As you know, this is about a very small percentage of all parts subject to tariffs. We do not want to punish them if they cannot procure (American) parts."
On that day, President Trump is expected to sign an executive order to ease some tariffs on automotive parts for two years, allowing companies that manufacture cars in the U.S. to build a supply chain and adapt to the tariffs.
He commented on Amazon's withdrawn plan to show higher prices due to tariffs on some products after a complaint from the White House, saying, "(Amazon founder) Jeff Bezos is very kind. Wonderful. He resolved the issue very quickly. He did the right thing."
