U.S. President Donald Trump, who had recently issued a series of conciliatory messages while waging a tariff war with China, once again took a stance against China on the 24th (local time).
On this day, President Trump criticized via social media platform Truth Social, saying, "China promised to buy and did not take possession of the beautifully completed Boeing aircraft," adding, "This is a small example of what China has done to the U.S. for many years."
Chinese authorities, as a retaliatory measure related to the tariff war with the U.S., directed domestic airlines not to place new orders for Boeing aircraft and reported to U.S. media that approval would be required before accepting already ordered aircraft, which was what President Trump brought up as an issue.
According to the Chinese government policy, a Boeing Max 737 aircraft, which was scheduled to be delivered to Xiamen Airlines in China, returned to Boeing's production facility in Seattle, Washington, on the 19th, and on the 21st, another aircraft located at the completion center in Jiangsu province also returned to the U.S.
President Trump also added, "Fentanyl, a type of synthetic drug, continues to enter our country from China through Mexico and Canada, killing hundreds of thousands of our citizens," stating that it must be stopped immediately.
As the U.S. and China engage in a tariff "chicken game," imposing ultra-high tariffs exceeding 100% on each other, President Trump recently expressed a conciliatory message, mentioning the possibility of lowering tariffs on China while emphasizing positive discussions with them.
