U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 24th (local time) that Russia's airstrike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv that night occurred at a "very bad time," urging a halt to Russia's further offensives.

Trump noted on the same day through the social media platform Truth Social, "I am unhappy with Russia's airstrikes on Kyiv," adding that they were "unnecessary and happened at a very bad time."

Trump further urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to "stop the attacks!" saying, "5000 soldiers are dying each week" and called for a "peace agreement."

Trump's remarks came as his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who is in charge of Ukrainian ceasefire negotiations, is set to visit Russia on the 25th.

Amid calls for the U.S. side to accept the incorporation of the Crimean Peninsula into Russian territory and the freezing of the current front line against Ukraine, this latest offensive from Russia is interpreted as a concern that it will reinforce Ukraine's will to fight.

On the morning of the 24th, Ukrainian authorities reported that a Russian attack involving drones and missiles on the capital Kyiv left at least 9 people dead and dozens injured.
