It has been reported that the late Pope Francis left behind an asset of $100 (about 140,000 won).
On the 22nd (local time), Argentine media outlet Ambito reported this, citing the famous asset site "Celebrity Net Worth." Generally, a cardinal's salary ranges from $4,700 (about 6.7 million won) to $5,900 (about 8.4 million won). However, Pope Francis has served without a salary since his papal inauguration. It is known that this is because he took a "vow of poverty" as a Jesuit cleric, committing to a life of simplicity.
Pope Francis, known as the "father of the poor," has led a modest life. He lived among the poor in his hometown of Buenos Aires and chose to live in a small, shabby apartment instead of an official residence during his time as the Archbishop of Buenos Aires.
Even after his papacy began, Pope Francis continued to wear the pectoral cross and black shoes he had used since his days as a cardinal. He also declined the exclusive accommodations within the Vatican, opting to stay at "Casa Marta," a guesthouse where he had previously lodged during visits to Rome.
Pope Francis's funeral greatly reduced the procedures according to the revised funeral law established last November. The funeral will take place on the 26th at 10 a.m. (5 p.m. Korean time) at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. In his will, Pope Francis stated, "I await the day of resurrection and ask that my remains be buried in Santa Maria Maggiore (Basilica of St. Mary Major)," adding, "The grave should be made in the earth, simple and without special decorations, and the epitaph should simply read 'Franciscus.'"
