On the 22nd (local time), Spokesperson Caroline Leavitt holds a press briefing at the White House /Courtesy of Reuters-Yonhap.

White House Spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated during a briefing that this is in line with the intention of seeking a new agreement to alleviate conflicts between the two countries, similar to the phase one trade agreement between the U.S. and China reached during the Trump administration.

Spokesperson Levitt did not comment on the detailed communication situation between the U.S. and China on that day. However, Bloomberg reported that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mentioned in a closed event that the stalemate with China due to tariffs is not sustainable and that the situation is expected to de-escalate.

This week alone, the U.S. is negotiating with a total of 34 countries, including South Korea, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok and Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Duk-geun participating in the negotiations.

Spokesperson Levitt also mentioned that the U.S. trade team, including Secretary Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, and White House trade and manufacturing policy advisor Peter Navarro, is working at "Trump speed."

Spokesperson Levitt also noted that more than 100 countries wish to negotiate trade agreements with the U.S. So far, there have been a total of 18 written proposals received from various countries.
