The funeral of Pope Francis, who passed away on the 21st (local time), will be held on the 26th, according to reports from the BBC and others.
The College of Cardinals held a meeting on the 22nd and decided to conduct the pope's funeral at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City at 10 a.m. (5 p.m. Korean time). The mass will be officiated by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the head of the College of Cardinals.
The pope's body will be transferred to St. Peter's Basilica at 9 a.m. (4 p.m. Korean time) on the 23rd, followed by a period of mourning. The lying-in-state ceremony was held on the 21st at 8 p.m. at the Casa Santa Marta chapel.
Along with the lying-in-state ceremony, the pope's last will was also revealed. In his will, the pope stated, “I await the day of resurrection, and I ask that my remains be buried in the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.”
He also stated, “Make the grave in the earth, simply and without special decoration, and please just write 'Franciscus' on the tombstone.”
