Donald Trump, the president of the United States, said on the 20th (local time), "I hope that Russia and Ukraine reach a (ceasefire) agreement this week."
President Trump noted on that day on the social media platform Truth Social, "(In the event of a ceasefire) the two countries will start a major business with a prosperous America and build great wealth."
This message came about 40 minutes before the expiration of the 'Easter temporary ceasefire' unilaterally declared by Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia. Earlier on the 19th, President Putin declared a 30-hour Easter ceasefire from 6 p.m. on that day until midnight on the 21st when Easter ends.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed to extend the ceasefire period beyond Easter. However, the Kremlin stated that day, "President Putin has not issued an order to extend the ceasefire, and the ceasefire will end tonight."
