On the 19th (local time), U.S. media reported that more than 700 protests were taking place in major cities like Washington, D.C., New York, and Chicago, as well as in small towns across various states.

This day is Saturday and the 250th anniversary of the outbreak of the War of Independence, marking about two weeks since over 500,000 people participated in a protest against President Trump with the slogan 'Hands Off.'

The protests and events were led by the grassroots resistance campaign '50501 movement,' which started on social media platform Reddit. 50501 signifies the intention to hold 50 protests in all 50 states on the same day.

The 50501 movement, which advocates for 'defending democracy, upholding the Constitution, opposing abuse of executive power, and nonviolent grassroots movements,' declared the 19th as a day of action in response to aggressive immigration policies, economic uncertainty due to unpredictable tariffs, and federal workforce reductions, calling for 11 million people to participate in the rally.

In Washington, D.C., thousands of protesters gathered at the National Mall, a park located between the Capitol and the Washington Monument, to demand the return of Abrego Garcia, who was deported to an El Salvador prison last month due to an administrative error by the Trump administration.

Hundreds also gathered at Lafayette Square across from the White House, and protests continued in Manhattan, New York, and outside a Tesla store in Long Island.

Heather Dunn, a spokesperson for the 50501 movement, noted, 'We took to the streets to protect democracy against the rise of authoritarianism under the Trump administration.'
