Ronen Bar, the Director General of Israel's Shin Bet, has expressed his resignation to those around him, local N12 broadcasting reported on the 14th. He has been opposed to the Cabinet's decision to dismiss him. Shin Bet is Israel's domestic intelligence agency.

Bar has reportedly strongly criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who decided to dismiss him. However, it is said that he expressed concerns that related legal disputes could have a negative impact on the Shin Bet organization.

Netanyahu has been under investigation since earlier this year for the 'Qatar scandal,' in which he and those around him allegedly received large amounts of political funding from Qatar. Shin Bet is also involved in this.

On the 20th of last month, a unanimous decision for Bar's dismissal was made in a Cabinet vote in Israel. At that time, Netanyahu cited losing trust in Bar following the surprise attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7, 2023, as the reason for the dismissal.

Bar has maintained his position after the Israeli High Court accepted an injunction filed by the opposition and civic groups. The High Court instructed the Cabinet on the 8th to reach a compromise with the Attorney General's Office, which had objections to the dismissal procedure, by the 20th.

Bar may announce his resignation date while submitting a written statement to the High Court panel handling the dismissal invalidation lawsuit next week, N12 reported.
