A fire was set at the residence of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who is mentioned as a presidential candidate for the Democratic Party in 2028.
Governor Shapiro said on the morning of 13th (local time) through social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "I woke up to the sound of Pennsylvania State Police knocking on the door after an arsonist set fire to the governor's residence in Harrisburg at 2 a.m. last night."
He added, "I safely evacuated with the support of the Pennsylvania State Police and Capitol Police while the Harrisburg Fire Department worked to extinguish the fire," and noted, "Fortunately, there were no injuries and the fire was extinguished."
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), fire authorities stated, "The fire has been extinguished, but a significant portion of the building has suffered damage." A reward of up to $10,000 (approximately 14.26 million won) has been offered for information on the suspect.
Governor Shapiro was elected by defeating Doug Mastriano, the Republican candidate who received strong support from President Donald Trump, by about 12 percentage points in the 2022 Pennsylvania gubernatorial election.
He was also mentioned as a running mate candidate for Vice President Kamala Harris during the last U.S. presidential election. He is currently being highlighted as one of the potential Democratic candidates for the presidency ahead of the 2028 election.
