Dai Bing, the Chinese ambassador to South Korea, claimed on the 11th that the fact that the Donald Trump administration postponed mutual tariffs for 90 days was thanks to China's counterattacks and resistance. This is part of a campaign to argue that the Trump's administration's mutual tariffs are unfair.
On that day, Ambassador Dai wrote in Hangul on his X account, "So-called 'mutual tariffs' have been postponed for 90 days. Can we say that this is a good thing?! Don’t forget, without China's resolute counterattacks and strong resistance, this 90-day grace period wouldn't exist at all!" He added, "And don't forget, this is only a 90-day grace period!"
President Trump announced on the 9th that he would postpone mutual tariffs for other countries, excluding China, for 90 days. Every time President Trump raised tariffs on China, China retaliated, pushing the U.S.-China relations toward extreme conflict.
Ambassador Dai's post is interpreted as an appeal to the South Korean public regarding the unfairness of the U.S. mutual tariffs.
Ambassador Dai shared a video in which a sheep marked 'America' rushed toward a sheep marked 'China' across a fence, only to be pushed back and sit down. The video bore the Chinese characters: 'Ren bu fan wo, wo bu fan ren. Ren ruo fan wo, wo bi huijian' (人不犯我 我不犯人 人若犯我 我必回擊). This means, 'If the enemy does not attack me, I will not attack; if they attack me, I will definitely retaliate.' This phrase is one of the key quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong of China.
