The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, noted on the 10th in an editorial that it will continue to take strong countermeasures against "economic harassment by the United States." This is an official response to U.S. President Donald Trump's imposition of a 125% tariff on China.

The People's Daily emphasized, "China does not desire a trade war; however, it will not tolerate infringement of its legitimate interests," adding that "the United States should retract its tariff measures and resolve issues through equal dialogue."

The editorial criticized the effectiveness of the U.S. tariffs, stating that they ultimately shift the burden onto domestic consumers and corporations, while citing a white paper released by the Chinese government the previous day, claiming that "China-U.S. trade is essentially reciprocal."

China reiterated its stance that it will not easily back down in the trade war and indicated the possibility of additional retaliation.
