The European Union (EU) has decided to suspend the retaliatory tariff measures against the U.S. steel tariff, which was to be implemented next week, for 90 days.
Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the EU Commission, noted in a statement on the 10th (local time) that she would like to provide an opportunity for negotiations, referencing the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to delay the reciprocal tariff for 90 days.
Earlier, the EU had finalized a retaliatory measure to impose tariffs on U.S. goods starting from the 15th, in response to the U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs.
This measure is unrelated to the U.S. reciprocal tariff, but decided to suspend the action for 90 days starting from the 15th to focus on negotiations.
Von der Leyen stated, "If the results of the negotiations are unsatisfactory after 90 days, the retaliatory measures will take effect."
